Beyond Heatmaps: What's Next for Football Data Event Review

On Tuesday 11th July Opta hosted an event at the May Fair Hotel, London entitled “Beyond Heatmaps: What’s Next for Football Data.”

The event opened with a panel discussion focusing on the future on data usage in football media coverage which featured former England international and Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy, The Independent’s Chief Football Writer Miguel Delaney, BT Sport’s Head of Live Football Stephen Cook and author and OptaJoe co-founder Duncan Alexander. The panel was ably hosted by football writer Daniel Storey.

The panel was followed by a guest talk from Senior Researcher for ESPN Stats & Info, Paul Carr, who shared how data usage is being taken to the next level through US sports coverage and also explored what’s next for our industry.
